Age is calculated from your birth date to today, accounting for varying month lengths and leap years.
How is age calculated exactly?▼
By complete years elapsed, not by rounding. You turn 30 on your 30th birthday and remain 29 the day before, however close it is. The calculation compares month and day: if today's month and day fall before your birth month and day, one year is subtracted from the difference in years.
What happens if someone is born on 29 February?▼
In a non-leap year there is no 29 February, so the legal birthday is treated as 1 March in some jurisdictions and 28 February in others. It genuinely varies by country and by purpose, which is why leap-day birthdays occasionally cause administrative oddities.
Why does the number of days not match a simple years-times-365 calculation?▼
Leap years add a day roughly every four years, so 30 years contains about seven or eight extra days beyond 30 × 365. Any exact day count has to walk the actual calendar rather than multiply.
