What is PPF Calculator?
A PPF (Public Provident Fund) calculator projects your maturity amount for India's most popular government-backed savings scheme. PPF offers guaranteed returns (currently 7.1% annually), tax-free interest, and an EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax benefit — contributions get Section 80C deduction, interest is tax-free, and maturity proceeds are tax-free. With a 15-year lock-in (extendable in 5-year blocks), PPF is designed for long-term wealth building with sovereign safety guarantee.
How It Works
Enter your annual contribution (₹500 minimum, ₹1.5 lakh maximum), the current interest rate, and tenure. The tool calculates year-by-year compound growth, since PPF interest is compounded annually. Each year's interest is calculated on the previous year's closing balance plus that year's contribution. The breakdown shows how much is your total investment versus earned interest, revealing the significant compounding effect over 15+ years. It also shows the tax savings from Section 80C deductions.
Common Use Cases
- •Planning annual PPF contributions to maximize the ₹1.5 lakh Section 80C limit
- •Projecting PPF maturity value for financial goal planning (home, education, retirement)
- •Comparing PPF returns with other fixed-income instruments like FDs and debt funds
- •Understanding the benefit of making contributions early in the financial year (before April 5)
- •Planning PPF account extension strategy after the initial 15-year maturity period
- •Calculating the effective post-tax return of PPF compared to taxable alternatives
