These calculators cover borrowing, saving and the Indian tax and statutory-benefit rules that determine what actually reaches your account. Several of them are country-specific: GST, TDS, HRA, PPF, NPS and gratuity follow Indian regulations, and the rates involved change with most budgets.
Borrowing
The Loan and EMI Calculators both use the standard amortisation formula, producing a level monthly payment whose split between interest and principal shifts over time. The behaviour that surprises people is how little of an early payment reduces the balance — on a 25-year mortgage the first payment can be roughly two-thirds interest, because interest is charged on the outstanding balance, which is at its highest at the start. That is also why overpayments early on save disproportionately.
Saving and investing
Compound Interest is the general case; SIP, FD, RD, PPF and NPS apply it under specific product rules. Two things are worth internalising. Compounding frequency matters far less than the rate and the time — £10,000 at 6 percent for a year returns £600 compounded annually and £618 compounded daily. And every figure these tools produce is nominal: subtract inflation for real purchasing power, and remember interest is usually taxable in the year it accrues.
Tax and salary
Income Tax, TDS, HRA, Salary Breakup, Gratuity and GST model statutory calculations. The recurring theme is that headline numbers mislead: your CTC includes employer contributions you never receive as cash, and slabs are progressive, so moving into a higher band taxes only the portion above the threshold — never your whole income.
Treat all of these as planning tools. For a filing decision, confirm against the current year's rules or a professional.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose the old or new Indian tax regime?▼
It depends entirely on your deductions. The new regime has lower slab rates but removes most exemptions including HRA, LTA and 80C. If you claim substantial HRA, home loan interest and 80C investments, the old regime often wins; if you claim little, the new one usually does. Salaried taxpayers can choose each year, so calculate both.
How do I remove GST from a price that already includes it?▼
Divide by (1 + rate) rather than subtracting the percentage. At 18 percent, a ₹1,180 inclusive price has a base of 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 and GST of ₹180. Subtracting 18 percent from ₹1,180 gives ₹967.60, which is wrong.
Are the projected returns in these calculators guaranteed?▼
No. Market-linked products like SIP and NPS depend on future performance, and any return you enter is an assumption rather than a forecast. Even fixed-rate products are affected by tax and, for NPS, by annuity rates at the time you retire. Model a pessimistic case alongside an optimistic one.
